Terms of Use

Map the Block is a free map of public data about U.S. neighborhoods, plus a free game. Use it for information and fun, not as your only basis for legal, financial, housing, safety or medical decisions.

Is the data accurate?

We show data as published by its sources (government agencies and open-data publishers) and name the source and date on every layer. Sources can contain errors, gaps and delays, and we may make mistakes combining them. Layers say whether they've been checked against a second source. The map is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness or fitness for a purpose.

What can't I use it for?

• Decisions about a specific person, such as tenant, employment, credit or insurance screening. Map the Block is not a consumer reporting agency.
• Harassing, targeting or discriminating against people or groups, including based on race, religion, national origin or any other protected characteristic.
• Scraping or overloading the site with automated requests beyond reasonable use, or trying to break its security.

Accounts

Keep your password private and your information accurate. You're responsible for activity on your account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

Your content (photos, call signs, feedback)

You keep ownership of what you upload. You give us permission to store, resize and show it on Map the Block and in share cards you create. Only upload pictures you have the right to use. No nudity, hate, violence, harassment, other people's photos without their permission, or anything illegal. Photos and call signs are reviewed before others see them, and we may remove any content at any time.

Icon Wars

The game is free. Scores and leaderboards are for fun; we may reset them or remove scores that look tampered with. Targets in the game are icons and pictures chosen by players, not real people or groups, and are not meant as a statement about any country, faith or group.

Donations

Donations are voluntary support for Phulax LLC's work on Map the Block, are processed by Stripe, are not tax-deductible, and are non-refundable except where the law requires. A supporter mark in the game is a thank-you, not a purchased service.

Third-party data and services

Map data, imagery and some datasets come from third parties under their own licences and terms, credited on each layer and on About the data. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we're not responsible for their content.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Phulax LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from use of the site or reliance on its data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the site means you accept the updated terms.
