🔎About this data
Deaths from drug poisoning of any intent (mostly accidental; fentanyl and other opioids, meth, cocaine and others), counted in the county where the person lived, from death certificates. 2025 figures are provisional: a few records were still under investigation. Overdose deaths fell sharply after 2022-2023, so compare the two periods. Need help? Call or text 988, or find treatment at findtreatment.gov or 1-800-662-4357 (free, confidential, 24/7).

Coverage: Nationwide, by county. 2025: every county (counties with 1 to 9 deaths are shown as under 10). 2020-2022: 2,010 counties with 10 or more deaths in the 3 years
How it was checked: 2020-2022 sums for Philadelphia (3,561), Baltimore (2,496), Cuyahoga (1,691), Los Angeles (6,783) and Cabell County, WV (366) equal the CDC's own year-by-year county counts exactly. Counties sum to 98.6% of the U.S. 2020-2022 total (306,439) and, for 2025, 87.7% of the CDC's national 70,646; the rest are counties too small to publish.
