Gun Shops Map: Every Gun Store in the U.S.

Only licence types 01 (dealers and gunsmiths) and 02 (pawnbrokers) with evidence of a public storefront: a shop mapped in OpenStreetMap or listed as a store in Overture Maps, the shop's own website showing its address or phone, or a known retail chain. Every other dealer licence, including home-based dealers that trade under a business name, appears only as a count in a ½-mile area in the "Gun dealers without a storefront" layer. Collectors, manufacturers and importers are left out. Holders' personal names are never shown. Phone numbers are shown only for shops confirmed as storefronts in OpenStreetMap or Overture Maps. Each hours, phone and website row says where it came from (OpenStreetMap, Overture Maps or the shop's own website). Call before you go.

Coverage: Nationwide: 13,792 ATF-licensed gun dealers and pawnshops with evidence of a public storefront, plus 614 gun shops found only in OpenStreetMap. Hours for 3,250 shops, websites for 10,048, phones for 13,595, Facebook pages for 1,605. Licensed dealers with no public storefront are counted only in the "Gun dealers without a storefront (½-mile area)" layer.

How it was checked: Since 17 October 2026 a licence is shown as a point only with evidence of a public storefront: a matching OpenStreetMap shop (3,804), a matching Overture Maps retail place (10,873; a place known only from a Facebook page counts only outside gun-store listings and residential-looking streets), the shop's own website showing its phone or street (4,468), a known retail chain (4,637), or a gun shop found only in OpenStreetMap (614). 30 of 30 sampled points carry that evidence; 30 sampled withheld licences showed no clear storefront in the same data. 25 of 25 sampled shops match their ATF listing row exactly (name, address, licence type). Geocoded ATF shops sit a median 152 m from the matching OpenStreetMap shop; 99.9% sit inside their own state. The 13 monthly ATF files on hand are consistent. Websites and phones added from Overture Maps were matched by name within 300 m (or the same phone within 2 km), and each website was kept only if the shop's own page shows its phone, street or ZIP, or its domain names the shop: 25 of 25 sampled added websites belong to the same business. 21 of 25 sampled hours taken from shops' own websites match the page exactly; the other 4 were site-builder defaults, which are now left out.
